Armoured scales are insects with a thin, hard, waxy cover (the armour).

On the plant the scale cover is the only visible part of the armoured scale. In older instars the scale cover can easily be separated from the insect body without killing the insect.

Armoured scales feed on plant juices and cause loss of vigour, deformation of infested plant parts, sometimes yellowish spots on the leaves and even death of the plant.

Armoured scales don't produce honeydew.
